    De Warenne now has its very own celebratory chefs in Mr Green and Mr Ferguson who competed against one another in a ready, steady cook-style competition organised by our caterers, Chartwells.

    The Red team - Mr Ferguson, Kalli Wesley (Y7) and Alisha Pearsall ( 11) -battled it out in a cook off against the Green team - Mr Green, Poppy Smith (Y7) and Megan Peart (Y11). This had all the drama, emotion and tension of the finals of Masterchef and the Great British Bake off.

  • De Warenne Bids Students 'Bon Voyage!'

    This Easter 36 students set off to Paris. Highlights from the week included venturing deep into the city's underground catacombs to see the final resting place of over 6 million Parisians and taking in the many splendid sights of Paris with a river cruise along the Seine. Most of the group were then courageous enough to go right to the top of the Eiffel Tower, once the tallest building in the world.

  • Austria Ski Tour 2013

    This Easter saw the third visit to the Austrian slopes for our students. On the first morning the group woke up to a glorious downfall of snow which set the day up perfectly for the experienced skiers and those new to the sport.

    After a few stumbles on day one all new skiers had made excellent progress and headed on the ski lifts up the mountain. By the end of that day they had grown in confidence and were thoroughly enjoying themselves. The advanced group were tackling lots of different slopes and often cam

  • Blackpool Hair Festival

    A group of students who are studying for a VTCT qualification in hairdressing in the sixth form recently attended the Blackpool Hair Festival. This is a national competition where students can both compete and spectate. The standard is high as competitors come from salons and colleges all over the country. Three of our students entered the competitions and did really well. The girls were inspired by what they saw and are keen to further develop their skills and enter again next year.

  • Medieval Day 2013

    In February students in Y8 took a day off timetable to experience a day in Medieval life. Through a variety of workshops students were able to gain an understanding of what life would be like during the 12th century.

    Through a cookery class some students made medieval style broth for students and staff to sample.   • England Under 19 at the Keepmoat

    7th February 2013

    On Tuesday 5th of February, England under 19s played Denmark at the Keepmoat stadium in Doncaster. As a treat for all the boys who regularly represent the academy at football, the PE department organised a trip to watch the game. It was a great opportunity for the students to watch an elite game of football, especially as the players were not much older than the boys. The students were a credit to the academy and themselves.   • Young Voices at Sheffield Arena

    A group of De Warenne students went to Sheffield Arena to sing in the Young Voices Choir on 23rd January. The singers had rehearsed a variety of songs and the actions to go with them. They were lucky enough to be right on the front row and got their T-shirts signed by the stars of the show including internationally renowned musician Randolph Matthews.   • 6th Form 'Graduate' from Leeds Metropolitan

    Nine De Warenne Sixth Form students travelled to Leeds Metropolitan University in November for a mini graduation ceremony. They had all gained a prestigeous qualification run by the university called the 'Progression Module'. This course takes a year to complete and aims to prepare students for university applications and encourages them to look into affordability as well as skills such as mock interviews and writing personal statements.

  • Fund-raising Marathon

    Oak 6, one of the house groups at the academy proposed to the Academy Council that they organise a fund-raising day to raise money for Action Aid, a charity which works with children in developing countries to provide opportunities for education and social development. A target of £720 was set so that each of the four houses in the academy could support a child's education.

    Year 11 catering students under the guidance and expertise of teacher Mr Ramage hosted an excellent Christmas lunch for the governors and special guest Mr Steve Hart, Project Manager Wates Contruction. The guests enjoyed excellent food which included Jamaican jerk fillet of pork, Supreme of chicken with fondant potato and festive savoury nut filo strudel.     The academy entered two teams in an under 15 boys’ competition which was held at Rossington All Saints Academy. Both our A team (Adam Davies, Luke Hardy, Reagan Winder and Liam Shearan) and our B team (Aidan Bedford, Devon Robb, Asa Blake and Tyler Hardy) swept through the qualifying stages in November but the final was nerve-racking for both sides as the quality of opponents was very high and due to an injury to Liam the A team were one player down.     "On Thursday 29th November a number of selected students from Years 8 and 10 went to compete in the Doncaster Schools Indoor Athletics competition held at the EIS in Sheffield. Highlights from the day include Emily Jones 3rd overall in the long jump, Tiegan Handsley 3rd in the triple jump, Laura Cope 2nd in her 60m final, Tyler Hardy 2nd in his 60m final and Keanan Rolph 2nd in the 60m final.   • Remembrance Service

    On the Friday prior to Remembrance Sunday the Vicar of Denaby led a service at the war memorial for school children from the area to pay their respects and remember the fallen.

    De Warenne Academy was represented at the service by House Leaders Aimee Martin (Beech), Payten Oxby (Oak), Declan Earp (Willow) and Deputy House Leader Brad Lawrence (Holly).   • Cadeby Mining Disaster

    On the 8th July 2012 4 students from De Warenne Academy led the procession through Denaby to remember the 91 miners who had been killed by the explosion at the Cadeby and Denaby Mine back in 1912.
