Year 8 go camping

28th June 2013

In June tents, mats, pillows, sleeping bags, stoves, food and a cuddly toy were just some of the items packed in to the minibus along with twelve Y8 students. The destination was Birchover in Derbyshire for an outdoor activities trip.

The first challenge was erecting the tent which was a great teamwork exercise!  The following morning involved climbing up and around rocks and then on to abseiling where everyone showed great courage. In the afternoon the group went to Carsington Water for raft-building. Two teams used only wood, some barrels and rope to create their masterpieces. A race to an island and back where one raft floated and the other collapsed.  Both teams worked exceptionally hard on this task and showed excellent communication and team work skills. On the final morning the group planned their own walking route around Stanton Moor.

This trip was a fabulous opportunity for students to develop their learning in an outdoor and potentially challenging environment. We are proud of the commitment and determination shown by all of the students.
