Year 8 canal barge trip

23rd September 2013

In June eight lucky students from Year 8 were chosen at random to take part in a three day barge trip along the Leeds - Liverpool canal. Under the command of the skipper, the 11 strong crew (including Mr Allgood, Mr Scotney and Mrs Benton-Miller) successfully navigated numerous locks and swing bridges to sail from Snaygill Boat Yard, near Skipton, all the way to Gargrave and back again. Stop-offs along the way included a trip into Skipton and a rounders game which tested the fitness levels of the staff! The students worked excellently as a team and all took it in turns to sail the boat, open bridges and operate the locks, which is a suprisingly complicated and difficult task. The trip was a huge success, new friendships were formed, new skills were learnt, the boat didn’t sink and most importantly no-one fell in!
