Castle Attack SPTA Technology Challenge Event

12th July 2013

The third annual SPTA Technology Challenge event was hosted at the academy in June. Teams participating were from Ash Hill, De Warenne, Don Valley, Garforth and Rossington All Saints academies.

The challenge was to design and make a seige machine to attack a castle and to rescue the princess who had been captured by the opponents' knight. The castle had been superbly constructed by Hu Robson our DT technician.

Students worked in KS3 and KS4 teams to complete the challenge and were only allowed to use the materials provided for them on the day.

They were judged on their creativity, teamwork, design portfolio and quality of manufacture.

In the final competition KS3 and KS4 teams competed against each other and had three shots at the castle each. Points were awarded dependent upon where they managed to hit the castle.

De Warenne's KS3 team was awarded the design portfolio award, and the KS4 team the creativity award in recognition of their innovative idea to use multiple weapons at each launch. Our KS4 team narrowly missed out on achieving the overall KS4 prize by 3 points beaten by to the team from Ash Hill Academy. It was a great day and everyone involved really enjoyed it.
