Holly triumph at Sports Day 2013

10th July 2013

Wednesday 3rd July saw the 4th Annual De Warenne Academy Sports Day. Luckily this year the weather was on our side! In the run up to sports day all students in Y7, 8 and 9 took part in an interhouse dodgeball competition with points going towards sports day totals. During the morning session the 400m and 800m events on the track and the throwing events were held and medals presented. In the afternoon the sprints were held on the track; 60m, 100m, and the 4 x 100m relay. Mr Steele and Mr Evans provided entertaining commentary as races were close-fought. Three of the houses were neck and neck as the final races approached but it was Holly's day this year. The winning Y10 relay teams were challenged to a race by an all-star staff team. Despite the professional baton exchange between Miss Ambler and Mrs Fox the Y10 team were much faster and Mr Kirk finished the anchor leg way behind Emily Jones.

Many academy sports day records were broken and the record book has been updated. The highlight of the day was the staff versus students tug of war, which should have been between two teams of eight but ended up with rather more on the student team!
