Academy Sports Awards 2013

11th October 2013

On Friday 11 October De Warenne Academy Sports Department hosted their first annual Sports Awards Ceremony. The aim of the event was to celebrate the achievements of all students who took part in sporting activities during the 2012-13 academic year. A host of awards were presented including school colours in the form of badges for those who showed outstanding commitment to their academy sports teams. Students also received certificates to acknowledge being named player of the year for their team or for being voted most improved for their performance and effort in sport. The Sports Personality Award was given to one boy and one girl from each year group who had demonstrated consistent commitment, effort and outstanding behaviour in all sports across the academy and replicated this behaviour in all aspects of their academy life.

Emily Jones was the winner of the Y11 Sports Personality Award and said “I was really proud and happy with myself, it’s about time people who take part in sport are recognised for their achievements. I will be really proud to wear my badge.” Students were pleased to receive their awards and are now wearing their badges with pride around the academy. Mr Turton said “It was a fantastic ceremony and really good to see the many students who are involved in sport receiving their awards. We as a department are always proud of the appearance, conduct and behaviour of all the students we take out to fixtures.” Many other students are envious of the badges these students have received and are now inspired to take up sport!
