Rowena Academy Arts 2013

19th July 2013

In July Miss Grain from De Warenne Academy's art department spent three days working with the nusery and reception classes at Rowena Academy to produce their 'Elephant Project'. Each year group had a papier mache elephant to decorate using paint and decopatch with each student having an input on the design and decoration of their elephant. The activity was organised by Mrs Campbell to support the school's application for the Artsmark Gold Award.

Students painted sections of the elephant before adding layers of patterned tissue paper to create a patchwork effect. The finished elephants were then varnished ready to be displayed as part of the academy's outdoor play areas. It was a fantastic opportunity for the two SPTA academies to work together and allowed pupils to create a lasting legacy of their time in the reception and nursery classes before moving on to the next stage of their education at Rowena.
