Fund-raising Marathon

16th January 2013

Oak 6, one of the house groups at the academy proposed to the Academy Council that they organise a fund-raising day to raise money for Action Aid, a charity which works with children in developing countries to provide opportunities for education and social development. A target of £720 was set so that each of the four houses in the academy could support a child's education.

Oak 6 organised a rota where they took turns on a treadmill to simulate the long journey to school the children in Africa have to make and between them they walked or ran 30 miles. Staff, families and students gave generously to the sponsorship of this and more money was raised when the day was declared a non-uniform day. Students donated money to come in their own clothes with many incorporating a Christmas theme. A raffle was organised and the kitchen staff made and sold special buns as well as donating money from sales of bottled water. The target was quickly met and we went on to raise a very impressive total in excess of £1000.
