Joyeux Noel: Lille Christmas Market!

15th January 2014

In December 2013 forty De Warenne students braved high seas and superstition to make an epic journey to France. After a 'restful' night's sleep aboard the Hull to Zeebrugge ferry, students made their way through Belgium and Northern France to Lille to sample its many delights. Two groups toured Lille's medieval centre and marvelled at its stunning cathedral, learning much about its history. This was swiftly followed by what was the highlight for many students - La Grande Roue. Not all were brave enough to take a ride on the giant wheel, though those that took the plunge were able to witness a breathtaking view of Lille, 50 metres up! By now feeling truly in the festive spirit, the group visited the wooden chalets of the Christmas market and ate some traditional savoury French pancakes for lunch.

Despite making their way through the ferry's supply of Ben and Jerry's icecream, students represented the academy incredibly well and received many compliments from the staff and even the captain.
