Doncaster School Athletics Championships 2014

1st July 2014

Students across Years 7 to 10 competed in the annual Doncaster Schools Athletics Championships held at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The first day of the event saw years 7 and 8 taking part with Elisha Brown destroying the competition in the 100m heats and finishing a credible 5th in the final. Daniel Newby won his heat in the 200m and ran brilliantly to finish 3rd in the final. Field event success came from Lauren Coggins 3rd in the shot put and Hollie Rowe 4th in the long Jump. Into the afternoon there were excellent performances from Nathan Edwards, Charlie Durose, Darcy Taylor and Connor Hamshaw in the 1500m, and a standout performance from Bethany Walker who finished 3rd in the 800m. The final event saw the relays and De Warenne's ‘dream team’ of Elisha Brown, Catrina Straw, Darcy Taylor and Grace Topham. The girls were hopeful of defending their title, but the strong competition meant that this year they had to settle for 4th place.

On the second day it was the turn of the Year 9 and 10 athletes and as with the previous day the competition was fierce. Harry Edwards and Keenan Bulcroft finished 2nd in their 100m heats with the latter finishing 4th overall in the afternoon final. Kenya Sulieman finished a very fine 6th in the triple jump but the performance of the year goes to Jack Brinkhurst who obliterated the field in the javelin, throwing an awesome 38 metres - a full 10 metres further than anyone else - taking the title with ease.

Well done to all the athletes.
