Doncaster Indoor Athletics Championships

16th January 2015

In January 14 talented athletes from Years 8 and 9 were selected to compete in the Doncaster Indoor Athletics’ Championships at the EIS (English Institute of Sport) in Sheffield. The first track event of the morning was the 200m where Elisha Brown’s dedication to her sport finished the race in 4th position with a great time. Other great track performances included Darcy Taylor from Year 9 who pushed herself to come 4th out of 12 in the 800m, narrowly missing out on the finals. Grace Topham, also from Year 9, is showing real promise in her sprinting coming 3rd in the 60m sprint. She made it into the finals where she finished 4th overall. Congratulations to Grace who is now the 4th fastest U15 girl in Doncaster.

Our field athletes also impressed. Cobi Rushton from Year 9 showed great potential in the triple jump where he demonstrated good technique for such a complicated event. Lauren Coggins from Year 8 went on to win the shot put with a fabulous throw of 7m 20cm.

In the afternoon the Year 8s took to the track as the Year 9s hit the field. An amazing effort in the sprint events saw Sam McCullough run the 200m making it into the finals, and coming 6th overall. Speedy Daniel Johnson from Year 7 took on older competition and made it into the finals of the 60m, coming 4th in Doncaster over all. Hollie In the field events Darcy Taylor took one for the team, quickly learning the triple jump beforehand and jumping amazingly well.

Well done to all the students that participated. It was great to see them display their natural talents and represent the academy so very well.
