Doncaster Schools Athletic Championships

5th January 2014

On Tuesday the 26th of November, selected students from Years 8 and 10 were taken to compete at the Doncaster schools indoor athletic championships against ten different schools in Doncaster. The event was held at the EIS (English Institute of Sport) in Sheffield. As the schools gathered in the incredible athletics stadium the Under 13 girls competitors were preparing for their 200m event, which was the first event of the day. The race began and Emily Box came an amazing second place in her heat. Other highlights of the day include Grace Topham from Year 8 competing in the 60m sprint and gaining a superb first place. Elisha Brown from Year 8 also came storming in at first place in the 200m thus awarding the Under 13 girls third place over all! All the talented young athletes that took part did very well and represented the academy brilliantly. My role as a Year 11 student was to ensure that all students knew when and where their events took place. I also helped the students warm-up and develop their technique before their events. Our outstanding teamwork and effort as a whole resulted in another successful competition for De Warenne.
